Car detailing and paint protection in Ripon
The A61 in winter
The A61 between Ripon and Ripon is gritted heavily and used hard, and it is the single biggest reason Ripon cars arrive with salt damage. It collects behind the arch liners, in the sill undersides and across the lower rear quarters.
None of that is visible from standing height, which is why people are surprised. We look underneath on every visit and tell you what is happening down there.
Market Place and the Thursday market
Parking around the Market Place is tight and busy, and door edges and bumper corners take the damage. Most of what we see is scuffing on the nearside and the odd deep scratch through the clear coat.
A light scuff polishes out. A scratch you can feel with a fingernail does not, and we will tell you which yours is before you book anything.
Farm lanes and hedge-lined roads
Ripon sits in working countryside, and cars that use the lanes pick up hedge scratches along the flanks and mirror backs, plus a fine web of marks where branches have brushed the paint at speed.
Hedge marking is shallow and usually polishes out beautifully. Film on the mirrors and wings makes the next year far less painful.
Cathedral-side stone dust and lime
Cars parked near building work around the cathedral and the older streets collect stone dust, which is abrasive. Wiped off dry, it acts like sandpaper and puts in the exact swirl pattern we spend days removing.
Never dry-wipe a dusty car. Rinse first, and if the car is coated the dust releases before a mitt ever touches it.
Commuters to Leeds and Ripon
Plenty of Ripon cars do forty or fifty miles a day on gritted roads. Those cars want film on the front and a coating everywhere else, and then a wash routine that actually removes salt rather than smearing it.
We collect from Ripon at no charge for jobs of a day or more, which is most film and coating work.
Which part of town, which work

Correction, coating and film are all done at the unit. Maintenance details come to you on the days shown.

Ripon questions
The ones we get asked on the phone most weeks.
Is collection from Ripon really free?
For jobs of a day or more, yes. We come up in the morning and bring the car back when it is done. Shorter jobs we quote, or you can drop it off.
How often is the van in Ripon?
Wednesdays, every week, for the maintenance round. If your day changes we will tell you a week ahead.
My car is covered in hedge scratches. Can you fix it?
Usually. Hedge marks are shallow. We measure the paint first, polish a test panel and show you the result before doing the rest.
Do you do wheels only?
We will coat wheels on their own if the rest of the car is already right. Off the car where we can, so the barrels get done properly.
Can you work outside in winter?
The unit is heated all year, which is exactly why coating and film happen there. The round runs through the winter on your drive, because that is when salt needs taking off.
